A business as a graph, not a pile of tables
Discern is the model of an operation. A small vocabulary of things, the links between them, where each fact came from, how sure the system is, and what it may do about it.
Things, not tables
Discern describes an operation as objects with types. An asset, an order, a customer, a door, a camera. Each has attributes, and each attribute knows where it came from and when.
Relationships are facts too
A link is a typed, directed relationship between two objects. Stays in. Holds. Opens. Watches. Links carry provenance and state exactly like attributes do.
Every fact knows where it came from
Each attribute and each link carries a source, a time and the component that proposed it. Nothing is overwritten. A newer fact supersedes an older one and both stay.
How sure the system is
Every fact is KNOWN, CONFLICTED or UNKNOWN, and anything a machine proposes is PROPOSED until a person or a policy promotes it. Ontonio says which, out loud.
What it is allowed to do
An action is an object like any other. It is proposed by an actor, checked by policy, and, when it faces a customer, waits for a person. Then it happens and is recorded.
